Safety First! We know sending your child to camp is a big decision – that’s why we’re committed to providing a safe, fun, caring, God-centered environment. We carefully screen and interview our staff, selecting those with high personal and spiritual maturity and a love of kids. We also consistently meet or exceed state health department guidelines for facilities, food service, and supervision. More specifically, here are the Mission Meadows safety standards: - All staff members pass a national criminal background check and also the NY state sex offender registry, as required by the NY state health department regulations. (We also access the similar sex offender registries offered by PA and OH, although this is not required by NY state health department regulations.)
- Staff are chosen based upon their expertise in camp activity areas, their love for kids, and the maturity of their relationship with Jesus Christ. Strict counselor-to-camper ratios and staff qualifications are mandated for supervision of all activities, with special attention given to swimming, archery and out-of-camp trip activities.
- All waterfront activities are supervised by certified lifeguards or water safety instructors. All lifeguards are trained in CPR. Swimming tests are conducted on the first day of camp to determine each camper’s level of swimming ability. Non-swimmers are kept in water less than chest deep and a buddy system is used during swimming activities. Boaters and canoers are required to wear life preservers.
- The camp is thoroughly inspected twice each year by the NY State Health Department and passes all of its requirements. Food preparation and handling activities are reviewed to assure safe and sanitary practices.
- We have a nurse who lives on-site for the summer, and she keeps and administers all medications.
