Safety Standards

We know sending your child to camp is a big decision – that’s why we’re committed to providing a safe, fun, caring, God-centered environment. We carefully screen and interview our staff, selecting those with high personal and spiritual maturity and a love of kids. We also consistently meet or exceed state health department guidelines for facilities, food service, and supervision.

More specifically, here are the Mission Meadows safety standards:

  • All staff members pass a national criminal background check and also the NY state sex offender registry, as required by the NY state health department regulations. (We also access the similar sex offender registries offered by PA and OH, although this is not required by NY state health department regulations.)
  • Staff are chosen based upon their expertise in camp activity areas, their love for kids, and the maturity of their relationship with Jesus Christ. Strict counselor-to-camper ratios and staff qualifications are mandated for supervision of all activities, with special attention given to swimming, archery and out-of-camp trip activities.
  • All waterfront activities are supervised by certified lifeguards or water safety instructors. All lifeguards are trained in CPR. Swimming tests are conducted on the first day of camp to determine each camper’s level of swimming ability. Non-swimmers are kept in water less than chest deep and a buddy system is used during swimming activities. Boaters and canoers are required to wear life preservers.
  • The camp is thoroughly inspected twice each year by the NY State Health Department and passes all of its requirements. Food preparation and handling activities are reviewed to assure safe and sanitary practices.
  • We have a nurse who lives on-site for the summer, and she keeps and administers all medications.

If you have questions or would like more information on Mission Meadows’ safety procedures, please contact us at (716) 386-5932. For more information on New York state health laws relating to summer camps, call the State Health Department’s Bureau of Community Sanitation and Food Protection in Albany at (800) 458-1158, ext. 718.

Health Care

We must have a new, completed health form from the current year for each camper, signed by a parent and physician. (This will be emailed or mailed when we receive your registration or see form tab above.) All medications will be kept and administered by the camp nurse. Doctor and hospital services are available nearby; parents will be notified if such services are needed.

Sample Schedules

Sample Youth Camp Daily Schedule:
*Please note the times and activities will vary based on the age group, but all camps follow the same basic framework.

8:15am First Word- This is when the whole camp gathers around the flagpole to hear a devotional from one of our summer staff!
8:30am Breakfast
9:30am Camp Clean-up – Here we provide a half hour for campers to tidy up their cabins and get ready for chapel. The cabin that is scored the highest get the golden broom for the day, and if you average a high score all week, you may even get a special cabin party!

10:00 Chapel – At camp, we have two chapels at day! In the morning chapel, we worship together, and get to see a piece of the 5 day summer skit that our awesome counselors put together focused on our summer theme verse! Immediately following chapel, we enter into a time of T.A.W.G. which stands for time alone with God. This is more or less a structured time for each age group to learn skills to independently spend time with the Lord during their week at camp. *Please note, on weeks that align with a day camp, this will be the content for the later chapel session and they will instead hear the speaker in the morning chapel.

11:00am Morning Activity – This is typically a large group game or stationed activity. During the morning game is also when students who signed up for electives will participate in those add-on activities.

12:00pm Lunch

1:00pm KBAR (kick back and relax time!)

1:30-5:00pm Afternoon Areas – Afternoon areas provide campers with different activities each day in waterfront, boating, arts and crafts, nature, and athletics. During this time frame, we will also have Canteen, which is a chance for campers to get a snack and drink from our camp snack shack!

5:30pm Dinner

6:15pm Cabin Group Time- This time is designated for cabins to bond together doing whatever activity they choose! This can be a chill time of making friendship bracelets and chatting, or it could be a group game they have been excited to play together! Our awesome camp counselors will help cater this time to their cabin and their interests.

7:00pm Big Game – The big game is often a camper’s favorite part of their day! During this time, we play large scale camp-wide games that get everyone involved in the action!

8:00pm Chapel – During this chapel session, we get to worship and hear from our awesome speaker of the week! We are fortunate to have incredible speakers chosen specifically for each age group each week. After the session, cabins will spend time debriefing what the speaker talked about with highlights and takeaway points.

9:00pm Snack & Cabin Devos – At this time, we start to wind down for the evening with a snack and cabin devotional or activity led by each cabin’s counselor. Then it’s time for bed so that we are rested for another exciting full day at camp!

& SO MUCH MORE! So much of the camp experience is also found in the in-between moments not listed in the activity schedule. The friendships made while walking to chapel or sharing jokes around the lunch table will provide your child with a lifetime of friendships and memories!
